Where parties have had some difficulty with the interpretation of or the compliance with Parenting Plans or Orders, a Final Order may be made by the Court for the parties to attend upon a Parenting Coordinator for a period of approximately two years.

During the 2-year period, the parents will meet with the Parenting Coordinator approximately once per month.

During these appointments, the Parenting Coordinator will facilitate discussions with the parents to assist them to comply with the Orders, communicate effectively and to assist them to adapt to their changed roles.

It is often difficult for parents to transition from husband and wife to being co-parents while navigating the complex issues that arise after a divorce.

The best interests of the children are the primary focus of the Parenting Coordinator. Issues that arise in the lives of families post-separation and post Family Court Orders, can often undermine parents who have difficulty communicating, or vastly different parenting styles.

A Parenting Coordinator helps the parents to navigate these issues, safely discuss and resolve these issues while providing the parents with relevant beneficial and educational materials, assistance, and advice.

A Parenting Coordinator can also refer parents to other professionals who may be of assistance.

While the primary role of the Parenting Coordinator is to support the best interests of the children by assisting the parents to comply with the Orders and communicate effectively, the secondary objective of the Parenting Coordinator is to keep the matter from returning to court. The heartache and expense of lengthy litigation does little to assist the long-term parenting relationship of the parents or support the best interests of the children.
